Congratulations, MAME Award Winners!

Congratulations to two Bloomfield Hills Schools Media Specialists who have received awards from MAME, the Michigan Association for Media in Education!

Klaudia Janek (IA-Okma Campus) was awarded the Ruby Brown Award for Individual Excellence. This award recognizes excellence in an individual who has helped promote and integrate the use of the school library in the curriculum and has encouraged local level awareness of the importance of the school library within the curriculum.

Cynthia Zervos (Way Elementary School & East Hills Middle School) was awarded the MAME Mentor Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual who has provided sustained and exemplary guidance, support and inspiration to colleagues in the school library profession.

MAME is the statewide professional association for school librarians with a general purpose to increase student achievement by supporting high-quality school libraries in Michigan. Klaudia and Cynthia will be recognized at the 2021 Annual Conference in Kalamazoo on October 14, 2021.

Max Mojica

Max Mojica is starting kindergarten. This is something that hardly seemed possible just a few years ago, but, due to the interventions of the Early On Program through Bloomfield Hills Schools, Max made extensive progress. “There are SO many amazing people,” gushed parent Ericka Mojica, “I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. As soon as they sent me the email saying that he is not going to need anything going into kindergarten, and that he is ready for full-on kindergarten, I’m not going to lie, I got teary-eyed.”

Middle School Orchestra Students Create Their Own Remix!

Middle School Orchestra Director Nat Erde provided a fun and educational challenge to Orchestra students at West Hills and East Hills Middle Schools recently: create a remix, or variation, and present it in a video. For this project, 6th - 8th grade Orchestra students chose a song or exercise from class and altered two aspects of the music, such as key signature, tempo, rhythm, articulation, or dynamics.
