Return to In-Person Learning

Dear Bloomfield Hills Schools Community,

On January 7, 2021, the Board of Education approved the recommendation to return to in-person learning in a hybrid model.  The hybrid schedules will resume as follows:

Tuesday, January 19, 2021

  • Special Education preschool programs: Early On and SEED
  • Bloomin’ Preschool
  • All students in K-8 (including ARP/FRP in grades K-8)
  • Grades PreK-8 Deaf & Hard of Hearing Program (DHH)
  • Wing Lake
  • Bowers Academy
  • PREP
  • Black Hawk Extended Care

Monday, January 25, 2021

  • International Academy, Okma Campus

February 1, 2021

  • All Bloomfield Hills High School students (including ARP/FRP in grades 9-12)
  • Grades 9-12 Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Bloomfield Virtual (K-5) Update
There are some students who will transition from Bloomfield Virtual to in-person hybrid learning; and likewise some students who are currently in distance learning who will transition to Bloomfield Virtual at the start of second semester.  These transitions will happen on the first day of second semester, February 1, 2021.

Bloomin’ Preschool
Bloomin’ Preschools will resume classes on Tuesday, January 19th.  Detailed information will be provided by Bloomin’ Preschools through family email and Google Classroom.

Conant, Eastover, Lone Pine, Way
Students will resume the half-day hybrid model from last fall. 

  • AM cohort: in-person instruction from 9:05 to 11:50 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday & distance learning in the afternoon.
  • PM cohort: distance learning in the morning & in-person instruction from 1:10 to 3:55 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • Art, Music, Physical Education, and Spanish will take place virtually during the distance segments of the day.
  • Each Wednesday - students will have synchronous and asynchronous distance learning. The school building will also be thoroughly cleaned each Wednesday.

EHMS, BHMS, WHMS (including elementary students at these schools)
For students who were in-person for first semester, the same AM/PM hybrid model will resume on January 19.  For students who selected distance learning for first semester, the same AM/PM schedule will resume on January 19.  

In November, families made a decision for second semester.  Therefore, some students will transition from distance learning to in-person hybrid learning; and likewise some students who are currently in distance learning will transition to in-person hybrid learning.   These transitions will happen on the first day of second semester, February 1, 2021.

  • AM cohort: in-person instruction from 8:15 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday & distance learning in the afternoon.
  • PM cohort: distance learning in the morning & in-person instruction from 12:20 to 3:05 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • Each Wednesday - students will have synchronous and asynchronous distance learning. The school building will also be thoroughly cleaned each Wednesday.

High School

Special Education 
All students with IEPs will phase in with their grade level peers (see information above). If you have any questions regarding your child’s individual schedule, please contact the caseload manager.

  • Early On will begin on 1/19. Teachers will contact families directly.
  • Preschool:
    • SEED and DHH Preschool will begin on 1/19 following the schedule prior to distance learning.
  • K-8:
    • Resource Room, ARP/FRP, and DHH will begin on 1/19 following the schedule prior to distance learning. 
  • 9-12:
    • Directed Studies, ARP/FRP will begin on 2/1 following the schedule prior to distance learning.
    • DHH will begin on 2/1 and follow the high school cohort A schedule.
  • PREP and Wing Lake will begin on 1/19 following the schedule prior to distance learning.

Black Hawk Extended Care
Black Hawk Extended Care will resume for K-8 students on January 19. Any student who participated in the program last Fall is eligible to resume with their original schedule. The program is currently at capacity, and we will notify families if availability changes. If you would like to be added to our waitlist please contact the Latchkey/Kidz Zone Registration office at  latchkey@bloomfield.org.  Our Black Hawk Extended Care program is for students who hold a current IEP and require ancillary services.  Due to operating at capacity, schedule changes are not permitted.
