On Cloud Nine during Wing Lake Prom

The gymnasium at Wing Lake was full of smiles and laughter at this year's prom. Students, staff, families, and visitors were “On Cloud Nine” upon entering the fully decorated space. The gym was transformed by the students’ visions: Streamers hung from the doorway, lights covered the walls, and tables were decorated with sky-themed centerpieces. Students donned their finest dresses, suits, tuxedos and amazing shoes - including one pair that lit up! “Prom is a highlight of the year and it is something that everyone looks forward to,” stated Wing Lake Social Worker Chantal DePorre. “Prom serves as a time to celebrate all of the accomplishments.”

Students who enjoy dancing packed the dance floor, while others could be found grabbing a favorite snack, taking a picture at the photo booth, or just enjoying the music. Everyone was having fun! “I love seeing the smiles on all of our students' faces as they dance and celebrate with their friends.” said Bloomfield Hills School Superintendent Pat Watson, who attended the event. This year, Wing Lake invited students who attend Bloomfield Hills Schools’ PREP program. Eight PREP students attended the event. “This is my best day ever!” said one student as she danced the morning away.  “PREP’s inclusion with the Wing Lake Prom made for a magical experience for all!” stated PREP teacher, Russ McCall. “It was a wonderful way to kick off the final stretch of the school year.” The students’ families were also invited to participate in the prom. “Prom benefits the whole entire school, not just the students, but also the staff and families.” commented DePorre. The memories made “On Cloud Nine” at Wing Lake Prom will last a lifetime!
