BHS Transportation Department Makes the Grade!

Bloomfield Hills Schools Transportation department recently celebrated another perfect state inspection of its fleet of 59 buses. This year marks the 27th consecutive year for a perfect rating, a remarkable accomplishment due largely to the outstanding service and unprecedented dedication to excellence and leadership provided by our head mechanic, Richard Hella. Hella is tireless in his dedication to safety and has an accredited and dedicated team, consisting of technicians Ken Weaver and Les Dietz, and bus driver Cheryl Engblom.

From the support of our School Board and Superintendent's commitment to safety, to the strong leadership and training of the Physical Plant and Operations Director Brian Goby, to the entire Transportation Staff, our team is dedicated to excellence. Safety is everyone's first responsibility.  Inspecting the buses prior to every trip is a daily routine, and any issue that is not in good working order is written up for the mechanics to repair.

Each year, the Bloomfield Hills Transportation Department has a new inspirational saying, and this year, the saying is, "We don't do average, We do awesome!"   Many thanks to the Bloomfield Hills School Transportation Department for your consistently 'awesome' safety inspection ratings!

The Transportation department would like Bloomfield Hills Schools families to know that we are always searching for great people to join our driving team. Many people may not think about driving a school bus and may think that they would not be able to handle such a vehicle.  But all of our drivers feel the same way before they join our transportation team.  An important part of safety is having enough staff to transport children to and from school. We currently have sub driver and regular driver positions open and would love to hear from you. Please consider joining the BHS Transportation team!

BHMS Food Expo

Recently the 6th grade students at BHMS had a Food Expo, the culminating activity in their science Unit Challenge. The Unit Challenge asked students to educate their assigned characters, Carl and Mary, about digestion and help them solve their digestion problems. Throughout the unit, students have completed hands-on activities to gain experience and insight into the digestive system, constructed and used models of the digestive system, and developed arguments about appropriate food choices based on evidence and reasoning. They also learned how to optimize solutions following the Engineering Design Process and tied this to the MYP Design Cycle.
