The Bloomfield Hills High School FIRST robotics competition team 2834, the Bionic Black Hawks, traveled to Gibraltar, Michigan the weekend of March 2-3, 2018, for the District FIRST Robotics Competition. The Black Hawks had an incredible weekend as they were recognized as the Gibraltar District "Chairman's Award Winner". The Chairman's Award is the most prestigious award in FIRST. It honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST. It was created to keep the central focus of FIRST robotics competitions on the ultimate goal of transforming culture in ways that will inspire greater levels of respect and honor for science and technology, as well as encouraging more of today's youth to become scientists, engineers and technologists.
In addition to the Chairman's Award, the team advanced to the semifinals, was recognized for outstanding pit safety, and won the UL "Safety Award."
In winning the District Chairman's Award, the team has advanced to the FIRST Michigan State Championship which will be held April 12-14, 2018, at Saginaw Valley State University. Before competing in the state championship, the Black Hawks will be back in district competition the weekend of March 23 - 24 at Belleville High School in Belleville, Michigan.
Congratulations to the Bionic Black Hawks!
