DECA International Results

Did you know that Bloomfield Hills High School has a DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) Club?  One of our high school's 40 school-sponsored clubs, DECA is an international association that encourages the development of business and leadership skills through academic conferences and competitions.  DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

Recently, two Bloomfield Hills High School juniors, Eeshika Dadheech and Katie Heath, attended the international DECA conference in Orlando, Florida, and placed second in the world in their category!  Heath describes, "The DECA competition begins at a regional level, followed by a state level event, and ultimately, the international competition.  Students must win at each level to move forward in the competition journey. Various categories are available for students to compete in an individual or team approach.  Over 22,000 participants attended the International DECA competition in Orlando this year!"

Dadheech explains, "Our category was Integrated Marketing Campaign Service. This event entitled us to create a marketing proposal about a service of our choice and prepare a 15-minute presentation that we were judged and scored on. We chose the Living and Learning Enrichment Center for young adults with autism as the organization to highlight.  We also had a written test that counted for one-third of our overall score. Our high testing scores combined with our high presentation score led to a second place win in an international competition in Orlando, FL.  DECA has been an extremely valuable experience to me because it has allowed me to learn more about business in a fun and unique way. I have also gotten to meet a lot of people and formed helpful relationships for the future."

The DECA Club at BHHS is continually growing.  This year's club numbers 50 members, and 26 of those team members competed at the state conference level.  Next year, the club leaders hope to see the club expand even more as it becomes more recognized globally.  Heath and Dadheech agree, "You do not have to be completely interested in business to participate in the club, as it is more for the experience and learning!  We would advise students not to be intimidated, as there are no prerequisites for the club.  All are welcome!"  DECA Club meets once a week, and there is a wide variety of events that students can choose to compete in, based on their interests.  Send an email to communications@bloomfield.org if you're interested in learning more or joining DECA.
