Bloomfield Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills Schools is sending three teams to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the FIRST Tech Challenge North Super Regional, a National Robotics Tournament. The district is the only district in the State of Michigan (and possibly the country) to send three teams to the prestigious competition.
The three teams: The Space Unicorns, The Mechanical Monkeys, and The Purple Protons, will travel to Iowa from March 15-17, 2018. They will join 72 FIRST Tech Challenge teams, representing 11 states, in the multi-day, highly competitive event.
If teams advance, they will compete next in the FIRST World Championship which will be held in Detroit, Michigan in April. The BHMS teams qualified for the national event based on their performance at the Michigan FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship held in December 2017. There are a total of 19 FIRST Tech Challenge teams from Michigan competing in the Super Regional.
FIRST Tech Challenge is more than building robots. Teams design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach.
Good luck teams!
