"Small Talk" with Mike McCready, Representative, 40th District in the Michigan House of Representatives, will take place on April 23, 2018, at 12 p.m. "Small Talk" engages dialogue between families and local officials. This event will take place at Bloomfield Hills Schools, Booth Center - Room D (7273 Wing Lake Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI). Registration is limited to the first 40 people. Recently, students in the French learning community from grade 6-8 at West Hills were among the 150 French students from greater Détroit who participated in the annual film festival at the Maple Theater. Following the excursion, French students have been engaged in sharing ideas and perspectives regarding plot, characters and setting of the film, making personal and intercultural connections and comparisons as well as discussing the morals of the story. The WHMS French learning community would like to thank the BHS Foundation for their generous grant and Alliance Française de Détroit for their collaboration in making this cultural inquiry experience come to fruition.

On Monday, March 11, the finest middle school musicians from all over the Detroit metro area gathered at Orchestra Hall in downtown Detroit to attend the Middle School Honor Band Day sponsored by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO). This year 18 students from Bloomfield Hills Middle School, 2 students from West Hills and 7 students from East Hill Middle School participated in the event. Throughout the day students worked with DSO musicians in like instrument sections, and were directed by DSO conductors on 3 pieces of music in preparation for an evening performance on the Orchestra Hall stage. Congratulations to the incredible BHS musicians on their excellent performances!
BHMS 6th grader Michael Lu recently competed in the Mathcounts State Competition at the GM Warren Technical Center on March 9, 2019, and earned 3rd place! The top four students are eligible to represent their school and the entire state of Michigan at the Mathcounts National Competition in Orlando, Florida in May. Micheal is the first student in the history of Bloomfield Hills Schools to earn a spot at the national competition. Way to go, Michael!
Congratulations to our bands and orchestras for their amazing performances at the District Band and Orchestra Festival during the weekend of March 9-10. For the second year in a row the festival was held at BHHS! Both the Concert and Campus Bands received a first division rating. The Symphony Band and Orchestra received straight first division ratings. The band received all A's in every subcategory from every adjudicator. The Campus Philharmonic both received second division ratings and were both one half grade away from a first division. Bravo to our terrific musicians!
Way and Eastover Elementary students are discovering the endless possibilities of creating their own playground with Imagination Playground! Student Francis Baker shares, "It is giant, blue, soft blocks that we can build as tall and wide as we want. Plus, there are balls that we can build ramps and make different shapes. My friends and I work hard together to create cool forts."
