Special Education Design Committee

Together, let's "rethink" special education and work to create a system of supports that is consistent, compliant, and ensures educational benefit for all students!  Please consider completing an application to join the Special Education Design Committee.  The committee will work to:

  • Examine the current state of special education programs and services in Bloomfield Hills Schools
  • Learn about requirements and best practices in special education
  • Make recommendations for improvements and develop goals

The committee members will be determined by the application.  A selection committee with established criteria will select the membership from the applicants.  The goal is to arrive at a 20-30 person committee with both general and special education staff across all levels included.  The committee will also include building and district administrators, parents, the Director of Special Education, and a Board Liaison.

This work will be facilitated by Dr. Michele Harmala and a district representative.  To apply, please complete the application online:  Committee membership will be announced by May 29, 2019, so please complete your application as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please contact the Special Education Office at 248.341.5415.
