The Black Hawks Get the District Win

Congratulations to the Bloomfield Hills boys varsity team for their win over Avondale in the districts with a score of 46-38.  The Yellow Jackets put up tough fight and competed until the end, making it a close game. In the end, the Black Hawks were able to pull away by getting defensive stops and making free throws. Sophomore guard, Mason Canfield scored a game high 17 points. Junior guard, Collin Hecker finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard, Ben Mutz added 5 points. The Black Hawks play Orchard Lake St. Mary’s on Friday, March 1, at 6:00 p.m. in the district championship game. Come out and support the team!

The Black Hawks Show Resilience in the OT Win

A back and forth game ended with a 64-60 Black Hawk win in overtime against the Troy Colts on February 19, 2019. It was a true team effort with numerous players stepping up with scoring, passing and defense. Sophomore point guard, Mason Canfield led the team in scoring with 23 points. Senior forward, Alex Igwe finished with 14 points. Senior guard, Robert Goldsberry netted 14, including two free throws with 6 seconds left to put the game out of reach. Junior guard, Collin Hecker added 7 points. Come out and support the team on Thursday at home against Clarkston.

Second Straight Win For Bloomfield

The Black Hawks earned the win against the Seaholm Maples with a score of 45-33. A balanced scoring attack was lead by senior, Robert Goldsberry and junior, Collin Hecker with 11 points a piece. Seniors, Ben Mutz and Alex Igwe contributed with 9 points each. The Black Hawks travel to West Bloomfield to take on the Lakers on Friday. 

The Black Hawks Topple Lake Orion

On Friday, February 8, the Black Hawks traveled to Lake Orion to face the Dragons. Leading the Black Hawks in scoring was senior guard, Ben Mutz and sophomore point guard, Mason Canfield. Both players finished with 17 points. Mutz, for the second consecutive game jump started the Black Hawk offensive with numerous threes in the first half. Canfield dished out 9 assists and hit numerous three pointers late in the fourth quarter. Senior guard, Robert Goldsberry played tough defense and added netted 8 points. Junior guard, Collin Hecker finished with 6 points and 12 rebounds. Also scoring for the Black Hawks was Alex Igwe with 6 points, Ross Hysni with 4 points, Ari Singer with 3 points, Brad Zousmer with 2 points and Neal Wagner with 2 points. Bloomfield Hills will travel to Seaholm on Monday to make up a previous game canceled due to the weather. This was an outstanding performance by the team. Go Hills Hoops!

Oak Park Edges Bloomfield in Overtime

The Black Hawks put together another tough fight against the Oak Park Knights. After falling behind in the fourth quarter, the Black Hawks crept back into the game and forced the game into overtime. Numerous three point bombs kept Bloomfield in the game. The game came down to the final plays, but the Knights were able to pull out the 75-71 victory.

Sophomore point guard, Mason Canfield was the teams leading scorer. Canfield finished with 18 points including a three pointer with seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Junior guard, Collin Hecker played a strong game and finished with 17 points. Senior guard, Ben Mutz got the Black Hawks off to a competitive start by hitting numerous three point shots early in the game. Mutz finished with 15 points. Senior forward, Alex Igwe dropped 11 points. Senior guard, Robert Goldsberry netted 9 points.

Black Hawk Fever

Black Hawk Fever generated a large crowd and an exciting night on Friday, January 25. There were numerous stations to visit. BHHS athletic teams set up tables displays, the varsity team signed autographs, and fans were given a t-shirt and a Jersey Mike’s sub. There were also snow cones, pretzels and nachos added to the normal options at the concession stand. The Piston’s Dunk Crew put on an electrifying performance that entertained the crowd. Thank you for all of the parent volunteers for helping run the event.

During the game, the Black Hawks jumped out to an early lead, but fell behind in the second half. After being down double digits, Bloomfield made a strong fourth quarter comeback, but could not pull out the win. A talented North Farmington Raiders team secured a 46-42 victory. Senior forward, Alex Igwe lead the team in scoring with 12 points. Both senior, Robert Goldsberry and sophomore, Mason Canfield had a solid game and netted 8 points. Senior, Ben Mutz and senior, Tyrone McGinnis added 6 points each for the Black Hawks. Bloomfield Hills looks to return to action on February 5th when they visit Oak Park.

Tough Night For the Black Hawks

The Black Hawks fell to the Clarkston Wolves 73-42. Leading the way for Bloomfield was senior forward, Alex Igwe with 12 points. Both Robert Goldsberry and Mason Canfield finished with 8 points each. Tyrone McGinnis and Ben Mutz each added 6 points. Remember to come out and support the Black Hawks on Friday for Black Hawk Fever. The Black Hawks will take on the North Farmington Raiders at 7:00 p.m.

Bloomfield Takes A Tough Loss at Troy

The Troy Colts beat the Bloomfield Black Hawks 54-43. The Black Hawks executed a solid game plan, but struggled shooting from the perimeter. In the end, that made the difference in the game. Leading the team in scoring was sophomore guard, Mason Canfield with 12 points. Junior guard, Collin Hecker scored 11 points. Robert Goldsberry contributed with 6 points and Alex Igwe finished with 5 points. 

Impressive Black Hawk Win

Congratulations to the Bloomfield Hills boys basketball team. The Black Hawks took down the West Bloomfield Lakers 46-36 on Friday, January 11, 2019. An impressive team defensive performance secured the win against the rival. Senior forward, Alex Igwe was the game’s leading scorer and rebounder. Igwe tallied 12 points and 16 rebounds. Iwge also shot 8-10 from the foul line. Sophomore guard, Mason Canfield had a strong performance with 11 points and 6 assists. Canfield also went 4-4 from the foul line in the last two minutes of the game. Junior guard, Collin Hecker and junior forward, Tyrone McGinnis both played a solid game and finished with 6 points each. Senior guard, Ben Mutz chipped in with 5 points. The Black Hawks improve to 2-2 in the OAA red and will visit the Troy Colts on Thursday, January 17. Great job Black Hawks!  

Lake Orion Tops Bloomfield

The Lake Orion Dragons pulled away in the second half to take the win over the Bloomfield Black Hawks. After a 26-22 led at the half, Lake Orion extended the led to capture a 64-40 win. Senior guard, Robert Goldsberry led the way for the Black Hawks with 13 points. Sophomore guard, Mason Canfield finished with 9 points and junior forward, Tyrone McGinnis chipped in with 8 points. The Black Hawks look to rebound on Friday, January 11, at home against West Bloomfield.

Oak Park Tops Bloomfield

In an OAA Red league match up, Bloomfield fell to Oak Park. The Black Hawks executed a great game plan and had the talented Oak Park Knights on the ropes for most of the game. Bloomfield held the lead for most of the game, but in the end, Oak Park pulled off the win. Senior forward, Alex Igwe played tough around the basket and finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard, Mason Canfield handled the ball well and compiled 11 points and 8 assists. Collin Hecker finished with 7 points and Tyrone McGinnis added 6 points. The Black Hawks are now 1-1 in the league. Bloomfield will host the Lake Orion Dragons on Tuesday, January 8.

Bloomfield Takes Down Detroit Northwestern

The Blacks Hawks played over break in Holiday Classic at Cass Tech High School. Bloomfield was matched up against Detroit Northwestern. The Black Hawks were able to put together a solid performance and pull out the 54-51 win. Leading the way for the Black Hawks was junior guard, Collin Hecker with 13 points. Senior guard, Robert Goldsberry and sophomore guard, Mason Canfield both scored 10 points. Alex Igwe added 8 points and Ben Mutz added 6 points. Congratulations to the team for a hard earned victory. The Black Hawks win brings them back up to 5-5.

Bloomfield Fights Until the End Against TC West

The Black Hawks traveled to Traverse City to play on Friday, December 21. They were in it until the very end against Traverse City West, but came up just a little short. Sophomore guard, Mason Canfield lead the way for the Black Hawks scoring 11 points. Many other players contributed in the score column. Colling Hecker finished with 9 points, Ari Singer and Robert Goldsberry both netted 8 points, Alex Igwe contributed 7 points, and Ross Hysni added 5 points. The Black Hawks are now 4-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.

The Black Hawks Hold On For The Win

Bloomfield Hills opened up OOA Red league play on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at North Farmington. The Black Hawks displayed great toughness and energy while jumping out to a quick start against North Farmington. At one point in the second quarter the Black Hawks held a 16-4 lead. The North Farmington Raiders fought back in the game and closed the gap, however Bloomfield was able to hold on for a 46-41 victory. Bloomfield never lost the lead throughout the course of the game. Senior guard, Ben Mutz led the way for Bloomfield with 14 points, including 2 free throws in the final seconds to seal the win. Sophomore guard, Mason Canfield netter 13 points. Also contributing for the Black Hawks was Robert Goldsberry with 7 points. Both Colling Hecker and Alex Igwe scored 6 points.

Another Battle for Bloomfield

The Black Hawks lost a close one to the Rochester Falcons on Friday, December 14, 2018. After a slow first half, Bloomfield played a tough second half, but came up a little short. The Falcons edged out the Black Hawks 45-43. Robert Goldsberry and Collin Hecker led the way with 12 points a piece. Mason Canfield netted 9 points. Alex Igwe and Ross Hysni added 5 points each. The Black Hawks fall to 2-3.

Black Hawks Lose at the Buzzer

The Black Hawks put up a good fight, but ended up losing on a Novi jump shot at the buzzer on Tuesday, December 11, 2018. Ben Mutz and Collin Hecker lead the way for Bloomfield. Both seniors finished with 15 points. Mutz drained five three pointers and Hecker knocked down two free throws to gain the lead with 14 seconds to play. Senior, Alex Igwe added 8 points. The Black Hawks are now 2-2.

Bloomfield Improves to 2-0

The Bloomfield Black Hawks boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. After being down 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Black Hawks dominated the next three quarters and finished with a 48-35 victory. Leading the way for Bloomfield was sophomore guard, Mason Canfield. Canfield finished with 16 points and 6 assists. Senior forward, Alex Igwe controlled the paint and posted 11 points. Numerous other Black Hawks contributed including Ben Mutz (senior) with 8 points, Robert Goldsberry (senior) with 6 points, and Collin Hecker (junior) with 5 points.

Bloomfield Boys Basketball Starts Off With A Win

Congratulations to the Black Hawks for starting off the season 1-0 and beating Grosse Point South on Friday, November 30, 2018. It was a hard fought game that came down to the final seconds. With Bloomfield down one with seconds left, Collin Hecker drove to the basketball and scored on a nice shot off the glass. The basketball gave Bloomfield a one point lead and the victory. Hecker also led the team in scoring, finishing with 18 points. Also contributing to the win was Alex Igwe with 13 points, Robert Goldsberry with 9 points, Brad Zousmer with 7 points, Mason Canfield with 5 points, and Ben Mutz with 3 points.
