BHMS News Details

Our latest guidance from the Oakland County Health Department outlines the following as symptoms:

Fever (100.4 degrees or greater) • Chills • Sore throat • Headache • Cough • Muscle or body aches • Diarrhea (2x in 24 hours) • Extreme fatigue • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • New loss of taste/smell • Nausea or vomiting (2x in 24 hours) • Congestion or runny nose not attributed to a pre-existing seasonal allergy.

If your child becomes sick with any of the symptoms listed above and is attending school, they will be taken by staff to our quarantine room. Our district's Director of Health and Wellness, Leonard Sanford, and our district's school nurses will be contacted, and the family will also be contacted for immediate pick-up.

If your child is sent home ill, they may not return to school unless we have one of three things:

  1. A doctor’s note saying that they are safe to return to school and that the symptoms were caused by something other than COVID.
  2. A negative COVID PCR (nasal swab) test.
  3. The student remains home for 10 days and is symptom-free.

We will not accept the rapid antigen test.

The reality is that we need our families to do their part to keep our schools open. Completing the daily screener and supporting the protocols for a sick child is what keeps us up and running. Families may find these flow charts from the Oakland County Health Department as additional helpful support in navigating any symptoms of illness in a child.
