Administrative Welcome

Jason Rubel, Principal

East Hills Elementary School; Visible Thinking Elementary School in MichiganDear East Hills School Community:

I want to extend to you a warm hello from East Hills!

As educators at East Hills, we have the responsibility and the privilege to offer to all of our students a safe environment where all students are able to grow and stretch themselves to reach their fullest potential. As a school community, we encourage our students to develop and to maintain their dreams by placing important adults in critical, supportive roles throughout their schooling experience. In this way, we model and demonstrate ways for our students to achieve their unique aspirations within the context of the school community.

"In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love." - Mother Teresa

In her quote, Mother Teresa very powerfully captures important wisdom about how to approach life (and schooling) to make it more fulfilling and significant. Teaching and learning offers us all numerous opportunities to focus on a number of "small things" that culminate over time to produce students that are prepared to do the "great things" of life. With this in mind, ultimately as a school community we are judged by the actions of our students and the way new student learning connects and impacts the world beyond our school.

Communication with families and the broader school community is a priority for me and the staff at East Hills Middle School. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to visit the main office, call, or email the school at any time. Your comments, suggestions, and input are welcomed and appreciated. If you do not receive my weekly listserv messages, please register for the East Hills listserv distribution here.

As the principal of East Hills Middle School, I believe that it is my responsibility to maintain and to continue to build a supportive and collaborative spirit at our school. Together as a school community we will build on the traditions of the past and meet the challenges of the future in innovative and exciting ways.

Sincerely,

Jason Rubel

Angie Konzen, Associate Principal

Dearest Cavalier Families,

It is my distinct pleasure and honor to introduce myself as the Associate Principal of East Hills. I am thrilled to serve our wonderful students, staff, and community. I look forward to partnering with each of you to provide the best possible experience for our students.

It has been a sincere privilege to call East Hills my home for many years. The first nine were spent as our Health/Family & Consumer Sciences teacher, and I am now in my third year as Associate Principal. My undergraduate degree comes from Adrian College and my Masters in Education was completed through Oakland University. Prior to joining East Hills, I taught elementary (2nd-4th grades) and coached varsity volleyball for my alma mater in Indiana. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher, Red Cross Instructor and small business owner.

On a personal level, I have been married to my wonderful husband Chad for eleven years and have two amazing daughters. Lola is a 1st-grader and Iris is in her last year of preschool. They love playing with our two dogs, Indy (Boxer) and Margeaux (Brussels Griffon). Chad is the creative and operational mind in our Three Dog Bakery businesses.

As an educational leader, I firmly believe that effective communication, problem-solving, and the mindful utilization of technology are essential to prepare our learners for success. I am passionate about attending to the whole-child and guiding them to reach their maximum potential. Ultimately, I want to ensure your child receives the highest quality education, as well as the opportunity to grow socially and emotionally. My involvement in our district's Global Education, Inclusion and Equity work fuels my thoughts, words and actions. I am a strong believer in the home-school-community connection. I welcome emails, phone calls and/or visits at any point in our journey together.

See you soon!
