Friday, January 29 is a half-day. Students should NOT report to the building on this day. Teaching will be remote for all students, regardless of their regular learning setting (in-person, remote, Bloomfield Virtual). Fourth and fifth-grade teachers will communicate their Friday, January 29 AM schedules directly to students and families (including specials if they are scheduled to meet). The Friday morning schedule for grades 6, 7 & 8 can be found by clicking HERE. Middle school elective classes will not be held on Friday, January 29.
The 8th Graders at BHMS and WHMS have been hard at work all semester working on their fall play! The students this year elected to produce a radio show inspired by the audio entertainment of the 1940’s. Their videos may be viewed using YouTube or Google Drive.
I am excited to join the Bloomfield Hills School District as the new Interim Associate Principal at West Hills Middle School. I will be joining a diverse community, which puts education first, and cultivates a pristine learning environment; supporting all students’ success. I am grateful to step into this administrative role with intentions to honor the traditions that have been established and create new opportunities for our students moving forward.
Important reminders for the return to in-person learning.
West Hills Physical Education Paraeducator Lindsay Parsell recently ran a total of 50 miles over the course of four days, as part of the Disney Dopey Challenge. In conjunction with the running challenge, Parsell raised funds for mental health awareness, with donations benefiting the Eric Domanico Foundation.
The IB Learner Profile Trait for January: COURAGEOUS
Embrace Courage to Take Action and Make Positive Change:
As we move into the second half of our school year we continue to talk to students about ways to take action and reflect on those experiences. Taking action to make our world a better place is a characteristic that we value at our school. Service is one form of action. We define service as action that has a reach beyond the classroom with the purpose of making change.
January 8, 2021 was originally listed as the date you needed to decide to either confirm or cancel the trip for your child. I have been working with Student Adventures to move the trip to June, which will provide us more time to determine whether or not the trip will proceed. Additionally, we are exploring other options in order to ensure the greatest chance of having an 8th-grade trip experience for your child. If you had not previously registered for the D.C. trip, you will still have an opportunity once we have finalized details for the revised trip.
During the month of January, Bloomfield Hills Schools will administer the next round of FastBridge assessments. The FastBridge assessment is our district's new universal screener for all students that replaced NWEA from previous school years.
