Principal Message: October 23, 2021

October 23, 2021

Dear West Hills School Community:

Fall is in full swing! With our sports teams and clubs up and running the activity before, during, and after school is incredible.  All of our season one teams have had a high level of participation and over 150 students have signed up to be a part of clubs!  Thank you families for making it possible for your students to get involved and get connected!

Make a Difference Day:  Our Make a Difference Day food drive to support Gleaners was a huge success!  Our West Hills community's generosity once again shined through as thousands of food items were donated and through our three spirit days nearly $1,200 was raised!  I'm always humbled by how our families step up to support those in need!  Thank you to Megan Johnston, our WHMS PTO, and the district PTOC for organizing these efforts.

Halloween Party Update:  We feel fortunate to be able to have our Halloween parties happening at the end of this week for our fourth and fifth-grade classrooms.  With that being said, we are limiting attendance to room parents to support the party.  We will take LOTS of pictures and be sure to share them out!

Drop-Off Lane Request:  West Hills has the luxury of long driveways and extensive stretches of curb to drop students off in the morning.  Please pull forward past the ramp so that multiple cars can allow students to get out at the same time.  Remember that doors open at 8:15.  If you need to wait past this time we ask that you do not stay in the drop-off lane.

Guidelines for Symptoms:  As we continue our efforts to keep everyone safe and limit the spread of Covid-19, we follow district and county guidelines.  As you determine whether or not your child is able to attend school, reviewing this Oakland County Screening Checklist is a great resource that outlines the guidance we are following. Additional Covid mitigation protocols for our district can be found by clicking HERE.

8th-Grade D.C. Trip Information Meeting:  Eighth-grade families should review the article on the Washington, D.C. trip as we will be kicking off our planning with an in-person meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m. in the WHMS cafeteria.  Please plan to attend with your student.

Don't forget that Friday, October 29 and Tuesday, November 2 are half-days with 11:50 a.m. dismissals.

Reminder to Bring a Mask Each Day

Please remind your student to come to school with a mask, and put it on before entering the building. We are happy to provide spare masks when needed, but students are encouraged to bring their own each day.  We encourage families to have their children bring an extra mask each day as well.

Also, guests coming to the building should wear a mask if needing to enter the building.

Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone safe.

Art and Basketball Club Updates/Schedules

Due to large numbers of students signing up to participate in Art Club and the 4/5 Basketball Club, a rotation schedule has been set up.  The alternative to rotating groups was using a lottery system to select those who would be able to participate.  In an effort to give all interested students the opportunity to attend, we set up the following schedules for those who had signed up.

Art Club will meet Thursdays, 3:20-4:00pm, on a rotating schedule according to grade level as indicated on the schedule below.  Members that couldn't attend on Thursday, 10/14/21, can pick up a paper copy in the art room at any time.  ART CLUB SCHEDULE

4/5 Baseketball Club will meet Thursdays, 7:30-8:15am, on a rotating schedule according to grade level as indicated on the schedule below.  If needed members can pick up a paper copy from Mr. Drogosch in room 120.  BASKETBALL CLUB SCHEDULE
