Bloomfield Hills Schools recognizes that digital communication and social media provide important opportunities to inform, educate, celebrate achievements, and engage with our school community. These guidelines are intended to support safe, professional, and responsible use of social media while aligning with Board Policy 8009 and Administrative Regulation 8009 AR – Digital Communications.
At the September 28 Board of Education meeting, the Board recognized Board of Education interns and National Merit honorees, reviewed assessment data and strategic planning updates, approved FOSS Pathways for Grades 3–5, adopted Policy 6008, named the Bloomfield Hills Schools Robotics Center, and approved the Superintendent’s 2026–27 goals.
Bloomfield Township has passed a 6-month ban on e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-motos for children under the age of 16.

At the August 24 Board of Education meeting, the Board discussed strategic planning and superintendent goals, recognized Lillian Tang, approved all consent agenda items, and approved curriculum, bond, and policy updates.
At the May 18, 2026 meeting, the Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education discussed strategic planning, recognized numerous student and staff achievements, appointed Krista Laliberte as Associate Principal of Bloomfield Hills High School, approved several district purchases and policy updates, and concluded with a closed session for the Superintendent’s evaluation.
For the staff members who use mileage forms, we are excited to announce a change in our district processes that will make the submission experience quicker and easier for everyone involved. Beginning today you will have the opportunity to fill out the following forms using Informed K12, an online form rather than submitting a paper form.

At the June 16, 2025 Board of Education Meeting, the board appointed a new Assistant Superintendent, held a public hearing on the FY 2025-26 budget and tax rates, recognized outstanding student and teacher achievements, approved various budgetary and procurement items totaling over $800,000, finalized the superintendent’s evaluation, and discussed a potential partnership with Oakland County Parks and Recreation.

At the April 28, 2025 Board of Education meeting, the Board celebrated student athletic achievements, appointed new principals for Conant and Way Elementary, received reports from district leadership, and approved several key items including revised graduation requirements, furniture and technology purchases, a high school track renovation bid, a custodial services contract, a midyear budget revision, and a resolution supporting Oakland Schools' proposed budget.

At the October 28, 2024, Board of Education meeting, Bloomfield Hills High School students were honored as College Board National Program Scholars, Susan Simms was introduced as the new supervisor for Wing Lake Developmental Center, financial statements and purchases for AP Psychology textbooks, wellness center equipment, roof repairs, and door replacements were approved, and the Board reviewed Oakland County School Boards Association bylaws and held a closed session for security and superintendent evaluation.
Public school employees with the premium subsidy healthcare benefit will continue to have 3% healthcare contributions deducted and may receive reimbursement under PA 120 of 2024, with changes set to eliminate future contributions starting October 1, 2025.
We invite K-12 instructional staff to register for the Educational Technology Pioneers professional development program. This program covers the best practices with the use of educational technology. Participants will benefit from four professional learning sessions, individual coaching, and access to valuable resources such as books, apps, and software. Additionally, you'll receive admission to the MACUL Conference.

The lifeline provides 24/7, free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States.

Bloomfield Hills Schools welcomes three interim staff members to the administrative team.
The West Bloomfield Clergy Association & Community Forum is a group whose purpose is to connect leaders of the Greater West Bloomfield area to build a stronger community together. BHS is a member, along with WBSD and Walled Lake Consolidated Schools. Today, we had an opportunity to host the group at North Hills so community members could see our new school and some of the amazing things that happen here every day. Thank you to the NHMS staff for being a great host, and to the student musicians who provided a very lovely performance.
BHHS hosted the annual Collage Concerts this week, showcasing the incredible talents of our band, orchestra, and choir students. Attendees were treated to surprise performances by BHHS principals Dan Hartley, Cathy McDonald, and Jason Ohrt.
Congratulations to SHMS Associate Principal Melissa Palmeri and her family on the birth of her son, Leo Palmeri. Leo arrived on November 21 weighing in at 7 lb 11 oz and 19.5 inches. The Palmeri family is overjoyed and doing well.

Amanda Melymuka, Kathy Janelle, Jenny Rossi, and Michelle Parks are not new faces to Bloomfield Hills Schools but have taken on a new position within the district: Elementary Program Consultants! The role of the program consultant is to support and lead building efforts around social-emotional learning and overall student wellness.
Introducing new staff member Jill Rilley, Media Specialist, and Julianne Umbarger, in the new role of BHS Mental Health Specialist. From books and technology, to supporting mental health, Bloomfield Hills Schools has our students and staff covered!

Bloomfield Hills High School’s Vanessa Ivy Rose, a teacher within the Language Arts department, has recently published both a book and a podcast.
On November 7, 2023, voters in Bloomfield Hills Schools will be asked to consider a Building and Site Sinking Fund Millage Renewal Proposal. The district is asking to continue to levy 0.6976 mills for a period of three years.

The district provides a valuable resource to streamline the CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) process regarding physical restraint or emergency seclusion.
This Google Drive Shared Folder is your one-stop destination for all CPI forms, including a comprehensive "START HERE" guide. This guide will walk you through the paperwork requirements step by step, complete with clickable links and contact information for all CPI trainers.
Health Risk assessment forms are due no later than September 15.
To qualify for the rebate, the employee and spouse (if applicable) must submit to an annual physical exam even if the exam date falls between two plan years (i.e., an exam dated August 15, 2023, cannot be used for both 2023 and 2024 plan years). Forms received after the due date will not be accepted.
Bloomfield Hills Public Schools is using Vector Training, K-12 Edition to offer training courses online. All staff members should have received an email from Vector Training with the required training sessions and your username information.
Students are back in our buildings, which means that it’s time for learning, making new friends, and Fall illnesses. As a reminder, Oakland County Health Division and MDHHS requires us to report communicable diseases and conditions.

Please be aware that several people throughout our district have received a phishing email that appears to be from the Help Desk. The IT department did not send this out, and we would not send out anything similar to this without prior warning. If you have any questions or you happened to click on any links/give out passwords please call the Help Desk as soon as possible.
During the shutdown, the network in and out will not be operational, including email, internet, and access to network drives. This disruption will take place during the morning of May 6 but will likely affect network access in the afternoon.

We are excited to announce that Becky Geskey has joined the Bloomfield Hills School community as the new Accounting and Grants Supervisor. In this role, Geskey is part of the finance team, and conducts day-to-day financial operations. With a Masters in Business Administration in Finance from Walsh College, and a Bachelor of Science in Finance degree from Oakland University, Geskey has years of school district experience through the finance team at Southfield Public Schools. Geskey’s most recent experience was supporting the county-wide financial system, including training, documentation, and analysis of the county consortium, involving multiple districts throughout Oakland County. In that role, Geskey shares, “I helped find ways for everyday users to streamline and utilize the software for their day to day processes. I thoroughly enjoyed my job and my time at Oakland Schools, but I felt that I was missing something. When I saw the posting for my current role, I felt like I had found that missing puzzle piece, and that is what brought me here. I'm actually the third generation working with schools in the business office. My grandma processed Payroll for Pine River Schools and my mom is currently the Payroll and Purchasing Manager for Farmington Public Schools, so I guess it's in my blood.”
Born in Saginaw, Michigan, Geskey moved around and attended ten different schools while growing up. During one semester, Geskey lived in Florida working for Walt Disney World in their College Program in Tomorrow Land Merchandise. A “Covid-bride,” Geskey married husband Brian in 2020. They have a ten year old Boxer/Pit mix named Scrappy Doo, four chickens (called “McCluckins”), and a four-month old son named Remington (“Remi”) Stanley. Geskey enjoys being outside, doing yard work, and has completed ten Tough Mudders, traveling to different states to run in them. Geskey also has over 20 years of experience working with Pyrotechnics, and put on the 4th of July show at the Soo Locks for the last three years working with Wolverine Fireworks. Geskey shares, “I am so excited to be joining the BHS staff and family, and look forward to working hard to keep the level of awesomeness alive within this district throughout my tenure here.”

Who Will Attend: Teachers, School Administrators, School Counselors, Social Workers and Psychologists, Mental Health Professionals and Clinicians
After a rigorous interview process, Mr. Jason Ohrt joined BHHS as their new associate principal.
“I am very excited to be joining the Black Hawk community as one of your associate principals!,” said Mr. Ohrt. “It is truly an honor to have been chosen by such an invested group of students, staff, stakeholders, and administration.”
Mr. Ohrt comes to BHS from Avondale Middle School where he has served as Principal for the past two years. Before that, he spent four years as an Assistant Principal at Fraser High School, where he was nominated for the Michigan Association of Secondary School Assistant Principal of the Year award. He also served as assistant principal at Warren Woods Tower High School.
Mr. Ohrt shares: “In my 15+ years of administrative experiences, one of my greatest strengths and joys is making connections, building relationships, and learning the culture of a school - this will be one of my first goals this year.”
Mr. Ohrt earned a Bachelor's degree from Grand Valley State University, while also receiving a football scholarship and playing football at the college level. He continued his education with a Post Bachelor’s Certification in Health Education from Wayne State, earned a Master’s degree in Education Leadership (Principalship) from Saginaw Valley State University, and also achieved a Master’s Certificate in Human Resources Management from Central Michigan University.

BHS Developmental Kindergarten through Fifth Grade teachers gathered at Bowers School Farm on Tuesday morning to engage in professional learning focused on science and social studies teaching and learning. Teachers took on the role of National Geographic journalists to investigate how living things prepare for winter in Michigan, from the horse barn to log cabin, to live into research-based instructional moves that enhance student outcomes.
Teachers investigated the properties of wool, straw, and hay, tasted radishes in the garden, explored the root cellar, log cabin, and farmhouse, and took in the beauty of the forest on a sunny fall day.

Congratulations to Jodi Kramer (learning services) on the birth of her grandson, David Paul Feldpausch. David was born on October 17, 6 lbs 12 oz, 19 inches. He joins his two-year-old sister Iris Mae.

As we progress into this new school year, together we will need an all hands on deck approach to thoroughly examine our spending habits to reduce expenditures throughout the district. As a team, we must collectively reduce our operational spending. Together, we have reduced spending before, and together, we will do it again.

This week, the Conant school community is celebrating being named a 2021 National Blue Ribbon School. Festivities kicked off on Monday with a staff appreciation breakfast.
The Transportation Department was joined by Superintendent Pat Watson and Assistant Superintendent for Finance & Operations Tina Kostiuk as they celebrated the Michigan State Police granting BHS its 30th consecutive Certificate of Excellence for 100 percent accuracy in bus inspections.

The search for Bloomfield Hills High School’s next principal is currently underway. In the interim, please welcome William Simms to temporarily fill the role as principal. Mr. Simms retired as the Thurston High School principal in 2018. He holds the following degrees from The University of Michigan-Dearborn: Bachelor of Arts, Certification-Only Secondary Program, and Master of Public Administration. Mr. Simms is committed to creating a high achieving learning environment and is dedicated to continuously improving.
Back in December, Physical Plant Services had their first annual chili cook off. It was a huge success, with a full staff turnout. The 1st place winner was Jim Walker with the best chili - he was honored with a 1st place trophy.
Congratulations to Amanda Melymuka, second grade teacher at Eastover, and her family who welcomed their third child, a baby girl named Stella Maria Melymuka on Tuesday, October 19. The baby arrived at 7 lbs, 2 oz and 21 inches long.
The family is happy and feeling blessed and thankful as they complete their family.
Congratulations to Joel Hohnke for being recognized as the Teacher of the Month. Mr. Hohnke been an innovative and exemplary teacher at Conant Elementary for the past eight years. He engages students in multiple ways and has kept relationships and knowing every student as a pillar of his teaching methods. Mr. Hohnke is well loved by students, and is a leader in his field.

It may be the offseason, but softball never stops! Come sharpen your softball skills and learn the game from some of our varsity Black Hawks. We will work through all aspects of the game - from hitting to defense to baserunning - and have fun as we go! Players should bring any equipment they have (glove, batting helmet, fielding mask).
Dining Etiquette is the most publically obvious of all the etiquette skills. Have your child spend an hour with the Etiquette Guru, LLC, brushing up on the skills that will provide a competitive edge in life. Imagine your child being bypassed for a future promotion because they did not know the proper fork to use. Each student leaves this class with a card containing the link to the Dining Etiquette video as a lifetime resource.
Ready to blow off some steam after a long day of school? Join us for a fast paced afternoon of floor hockey games! Teams will play in a round robin tournament format or head to head depending on class size. Hockey sticks, balls/pucks and safety glasses will be provided. No other equipment is necessary.
Recreation basketball program for girls and boys. Practice session and game each week. Eight weeks of league play.
Designed for children ages 4-6 who love tumbling, dancing and moving to music, Mini-Stars takes your little one to the next level introducing elementary gymnastic skills and basic handling of hoops, ropes, balls and ribbons. This twice weekly class enhances strength, flexibility and coordination while encouraging and preparing those who are interested in future performance and competition opportunities.
Liverpool Junior Academy is a Soccer and Skill Development program from Liverpool FC IA Michigan, a premier soccer academy. The primary goal of this program is to prepare players for the next level of competition in a fun, nurturing and high-level soccer environment.
