English Language Development

Bloomfield Hills Schools seeks to provide every child, regardless of national origin or native language, quality, and meaningful educational instruction. Consequently, ELD students who are limited-English proficient (LEP) are provided instructional services through an English Language Development (ELD)/Bilingual Program which is designed to meet their unique needs.

Bloomfield Hills Schools has a full-time ELD teacher in each of its elementary buildings! In grades K through 3, all EL students will be enrolled in their home school in a general education classroom.

West Hills houses the district middle school ELD Newcomers' Program designed to instruct ELD students that possess limited English proficiency. LEP students receive a broad spectrum of individualized, specialized services based on their individual needs. The district's program includes four basic components:

  • English as a second language instruction
  • Content area instruction
  • Reading/language arts
  • Cultural awareness
